Q
I received my iCard today, and I understand that it will probably take a day or so for it to be enterred into your system. In the meantime, I have
been perusing the website and am a bit confused about the login process (all in the context of looking at an eBook). From the library's main page, I selected eBooks, at which point it asked me for a User ID and PW. I presume that my PW will be my 16 digit i-card #. Will my User ID will be my name, or do I need to create an ID elsewhere?

The library buys access to data from a number of different companies. Unfortunately, they don't all use the same system for allowing access and NetLibrary (the system for most of the e-books we have) doesn't use the I-card. To use NetLibrary, you must have set up a NetLibrary account. On the upper right corner of the NetLibrary page, there is a link to "Create a Free Account". Just follow that link and answer a few basic questions and you'll be set up. However, your initial account setup has to be done from a computer that has an IUP address (usually one located on the IUP campus). That's the only way that NetLibrary knows that you are an IUP user. Once you've set up your account, you can use it to log in from anywhere, but the setup has to be done from an IUP machine. The easiest way to set up your account is from a machine that is physically on the IUP campus. However, if you aren't on campus and can't get here conveniently, you use the VPN (Virtual Private Network) system. You'll find the directions for setting up VPN on the Library Home Page (www.iup.edu/library) by clicking on the "Library Services" section and selecting the "VPN Instructions" option. If neither of these options works for you, just call the library and we can help get you registered.
