If IUP does not own a book you need, there are several systems available for requesting through another library. First is PALCI (the Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc.). They have as system called EZ-Borrow for requesting books. Just go to the Library Home Page (www.iup.edu/library), click on "Books and More" and then select the "PALCI (Interlibrary Loan)" option. PALCI will then ask you to log in You use the 16-digit number on the bottom of your I-Card (the one that starts 60083901....). Once connected to PALCI, you can search by author, title, subject or ISBN (International Standard Book Number - the fastest search). The ISBN for the book you need is 0781736390. Enter the terms and click the "Search" button. The system should respond with a list of titles. If the search fails the first time, go back to the search screen and select "PALCI Group 2" or "PALCI Group 3". These groups are set up to even out the load of seaching on the system, so be sure to try all three groups to find what you need. If PALCI finds a match, just click the blue "Request" button. The system will then verify your name, where you want to pick up the book and your e-mail address. Once everything is OK, just click the "Submit" button. Your request will automatically go to a library that owns the material. They will retrieve it and ship it to IUP. When it arrives at IUP, you will receive an e-mail notification and you'll be able to pick it up and check it out at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of Stapleton Library. The process takes about 3-6 working days. If you can't find the book on PALCI or if you need a journal article, you can use the ILLIAD system to request it. You can find ILLID by going to the Library Home Page, clicking on "Books and More" section and then selecting the "ILLIAD (Interlibrary Loan)" option. This will take you to the ILLIAD log in page. To use ILLIAD, you must be a registered user. If you don't already have an ILLIAD account, just click the "First Time Users" link. This will take you to a page that explains the system and that has a "First Time Users Click Here" button at the bottom. Click that button to get the registration page. On the registration page, fill out the information requested (including specifiying your user ID and password) and click the "Submit" button. As soon as you submit the registration, you'll be immediately registered and taken to the main ILLIAD menu. On the main ILLIAD menu, you have the options to "Request a Photocopy" (used for articles or specific book chapters) or "Request a Book". Select the appropriate request form and fill out the information about the item you need. When you have completed the form, click the "Submit" button at the bottom. The request will go to our ILL staff who will locate a library that has the material and ask for it to be sent here for you to use. When the material arrives at IUP, you'll get e-mail notification and you can pick up the material at the Circulation Desk. Again, the process takes about 3-6 working days.
