There are a couple of online ways to request books from other libraries. First, I would suggest that you try the PALCI (Pennsylvania Academic Library Consortium, Inc.) service. To find this, go to the Library Home Page (www.iup.edu/library), click on "Books and More" and then on the "PALCI (Interlibrary Loan)" link. On the PALCI login page, you will be asked to enter your Patron ID. That is the 16-digit number on the bottom of your I-card. The one that starts 60083901.... Once you've logged on to PALCI, you can search for specific books by Author, Title, Subject or ISBN (International Standard Book Number). Once you find an item you need, just click the blue "Request" button. If the book is available from one of the PALCI Libraries in that group, the system will display a screen that verify's your name, pickup location and e-mail address. Once everything is OK, just click "Submit" and the system will automatically send a request to a library that has the material. That library will pull the material and ship it to IUP. When it arrives here, you'll receive e-mail notification that it is available and you can pick it up at the Circulation Desk. Turnaround time for PALCI is about 3-6 working days and then you'll be able to use the book for either 28 or 30 (determined by the lending library). If your first search in PALCI (Group 1) does not return results, be sure to try Group 2 and then Group 3. If the book you need is not available from PALCI or if you need a specific book chapter or a journal article, you will need to use the ILLIAD system. This Interlibrary Loan system goes beyond Pennsylvania. To find ILLIAD, go to the Library Home Page, click on either "Books and More" or "Articles and More" and then on the "ILLIAD (Interlibrary Loan) link. This will take you to the ILLIAD login page. In order to make requests, you must be a registered user of ILLIAD. If you don't have an account, just follow the "First Time Users" link. This will take you to a page that explains the system and that has a "First Time Users Click Here" button at the bottom. Click that button to get the registration page. On the registration page, enter your contact information (including whatever User ID and Password you want), then click "Submit". You will then be immediately registered and taken to the main ILLIAD screen. On the main ILLIAD screen, you have the option to "Request a Photocopy" (used for articles or book chapters) or "Request a Book". Select the appropriate request form and then enter as much information about the item you need as you can. Once you click "Submit", our staff will find a library that has that material and request that it be sent to IUP for you to use. Again, when the material arrives, you'll receive an e-mail notification and you'll be able to pick up the material at the Circulation Desk on the 1st floor of Stapleton Library.
