I am not sure why PALCI is not allowing you to request that book. Everything looks fine with the item in our catalog and it is checked out. I will have to report this to PALCI as a problem. One explanation could be that the PALCI system is matching on another edition of the book. The book you cite is the 2nd edition. The first edition was published in 1986 and we have three copies of it available. PALCI may be searching our system by title and finding the earlier edition thinking it is the edition you want and thus blocking your request. It may take some time to get this straightened out with PALCI. In the meantime, I would suggest that you request the book through ILLIAD. To find ILLIAD, go to the Library Home Page (www.iup.edu/library), click on the "Books and More" link and then on on "ILLIAD (Interlibrary Loan)". This is another Interlibrary Loan system and there is not as much automatic processing to get in the way. In order to use ILLIAD, you must be a registered user. If you have a user name and password, just enter that on the ILLIAD welcome screen. If you don't have a user name and password, click on the "First Time Users" link. This will take you to page that explains the system and that has a "First Time Users Click Here" button at the bottom. Click that button to get the registration page. On the registration page, enter your contact information (including your user name and password) and submit it. You'll be immediately registered. Once you get to the ILLIAD main menu, select the "Request a Book" option and then enter the information about the book you need. It will be helpful if you add a statement in the "Notes" field that IUP owns the book, but it is checked out. Once you submit the request, it will go to our Interlibrary Loan staff who will contact a library the owns the book and arrange for the loan. ILLIAD takes about the same time as PALCI (3-6 working days) and we can request books from libraries other than those included in PALCI. When the book arrives, you'll receive e-mail notification and then you can pick it up at the Circulation Desk, just like PALCI.
