The large numbers at the top of the endcaps are just a sequential number to identify that set of shelves in our internal processing. We use them to assign task to our student workers, etc. They really won't help you to identify where your book is located.
To find the books, you use the smaller numbers that are in the holders on the endcaps. There's a card for each side that is supposed to indicate the range of call numbers down that side. We've been doing a project to shift the collection to make room for new books, so sometimes the numbers on those cards aren't accurate. If they aren't we will be making new cards very soon.
