Q. How do I find a dissertation?

How do I find a dissertation in the library?

We offer several different resources to help you locate the item you need.

You can use ProQuest Dissertations and Theses to search for the full-text of dissertations published at universities and institutions across the globe, including those written by former students at IUP.  If you wish to only search dissertations from IUP students, visit the ProQuest IUP Dissertation Collection.

Our Knowledge Repository holds electronic copies of master's theses and doctoral dissertations written by IUP students.  Access to some documents may be restricted by the author - in that case, only the front matter of the dissertation or thesis will be available for download.

In addition to the digital collections mentioned above, we also house a print collection of dissertations and theses written by IUP students.  The dissertation collection is located on the second floor of Stabley Library, near the Teaching Lab.

To search our print collection, do the following:

  1. Go to the Library Home Page.
  2. Select Library Catalog from the "Search In" drop-down menu.
  3. Enter your search terms, and click Search.
  4. In the right-hand column of the search results window, click Available in the Library under Resource Type filter, and then Dissertations under Format.  This will limit results to physical copies of dissertations held in the IUP Libraries collections.
