The large numbers at the top of the endcaps are just a sequential number to identify that set of shelves in our internal processing. We use them to assign tasks to our student workers, etc. They really won't help you to identify where your book is located.
To find the books, you use the smaller numbers that are in the holders on the endcaps. There's a card for each side that indicates the range of call numbers down that side.
