Some internet service providers (ISPs) offer customers advanced security features that are designed to protect against malware, threats, and suspicious internet activity. Unfortunately, these features sometimes prevent access to library resources, and give errors that may resemble the example below:
To make sure that library resources are remotely accessed only by IUP students, faculty, and staff, we use a service called EZProxy. This proxy service redirects your request to the login system for IUP so you can enter your username and password to authenticate and use our online resources. However, some advanced security settings see the EZProxy redirection as suspicious.
Please rest assured that this does not mean that the library's resources, or your connection, are insecure! Both the IUP Libraries and our resource providers use current security techniques to keep your data safe.
If you encounter this issue, you can try disabling the advanced security setting for your internet connection to see if the problem resolves. Changing these settings is usually done through the ISPs app on your mobile device.
Instructions for Xfinity and Spectrum ISPs are shown below (instructions will be added for other ISPs as they become available). Please note that the account holder for the internet service will need to perform the steps below.
If you wish, you can re-enable the security features when you are done using the library's resources.
